Best Underground Artist
And the winner is... Freezi!!
This Brixton, South London based rapper/grime MC has been around for some time, but started making waves in '08 with his Danja produced, Timbaland sampling hit "Space Guy". The track has been making waves online & anticipation has steadily built for his debut solo mixtape A Lil Glance, which drops next year.
An as yet untitled album will follow shortly after & he will touring throughout 2009. Don't say you weren't warned!

Best Remix
The Winner is... "Crimewave (The Crystal Castles Remix)" By Health!!
The original is a violent, noisy affair which it's almost physically exhausting to listen to. The remix is melodic & has a kick ass beat which is complemented well by Alice Glass' excellent vocals. They went on to do bigger things in '08, but this is where it started for the new stars of punk rock.

Soul music has seen a resurgence of late, what with John Legend, Estelle & Adele having massive success. Soul entering back into the charts is thanks in no small part, to Maroon 5, whose blend of soul, r&b & rock has seen them creating some of the biggest pops hits of recent years.
Tomorrow (or Tuesday if you live in the States), sees the release of their new remix album Call & Response. This unique collection features production from Pharrell, Mark Ronson, Swizz Beats & more.
Here's a preview.

Adding to the already stellar line of Kanye West proteges (John Legend, Mr. Hudson), Kid Cudi has been bubbling on the scene with this remake of his hit single for a while now. It's finally getting an official release & I think it could be a number 1. Good luck Cudi.

First Envy, now Goldielocks? The females are definitely running things when it comes to original videos right now. The males in the UK rap scene are gonna have to up their game considerably. Any takers?
Life Is Just A Beach Chair
After the success of their mega selling album Viva La Vida (Or Death And All His Friends), Coldplay return with this, the first single from their new EP Prospekt's March.
You might regocnize some Jigga's bars from mixtapes, but this is the first time they've featured on a n official release.
Back In The Daze
You know me, I'm on my old school sh*t. I can't help it! Tunes used to be classic. Don't believe me? Here's three that prove it:
Bel Amour - "Bel Amour"
This tune had clubs on lock for months. It's funky, catchy & still sounds fresh today. A classic if ever I heard one.
Indo - "R U Sleeping (Bump N Flex Remix)"
This is an often forgotten, but essential 2 step track which laid the foundations for MJ Cole, Artful Dodger & the melodic summer of garage that was to follow.
Layo & Bushwaka, Kings Of Tomorrow and Tim Deluxe- "Finally: A Love Story (featuring Julie McKnight)"
This is possibly my favourite club song ever. it's just incredible. The vocals, the production, everything about this is sublime. This is what club music should be. Listening to this borders on euphoric. It's deserving of a much better video, but that doesn't detract from what a stunning composition this really is.
All these tracks are available on Ministry Of Sound's: The Anthem's Volume 2

Rock Band Vs Guitar Hero
With Rock Band falling flat on it's face in it's quest to steal the rock simulation crown, Activision really stuck in the knife when they unveiled the lineup for their newest entry into the arena, Guitar Hero: World Tour. Classic Sh*t Part 2
Watch it here
I recently decided that I'm gonna invest in more ink (specifically my left arm & back). One of the tatts I'm getting first is the lyrics to this song right here. One of the best tracks (if not the best) from what is easily the best Queens Of The Stone Age album (don't argue), this is incredible.
It sounds amazing no matter how many times you listen to it & that video is beautiful. I could watch it until my eyeballs bled out of my head.
Long live Josh Homme & Dave Grohl
Classic Sh*t Part 1
Slimm "Cutta" Calhoun - It's Ok (Feat. Andre 3000)
Another new addition to my blog, I just don't know where I'm gonna find the time *Sigh*
Slimm Calhoun was the first signing to Outkast's Aquemini label (later renamed Purple Ribbon Records). His debut album The Skinny, was one of the greatest southern rap records ever & incredibly slept on. If you can get your hands on a copy, do. It's amazing.
This single here, is a great display of what set him apart from his peers & shows just why Andre & Big Boi wanted him as part of the team.
He is (according to Wikipedia) in the studio working on new material & I for one can't wait to hear it.

Frankmusik is the shit, but you should know this already. It's been a long time coming, but the 24th of this month marks the release of his new EP 3 Little Words.
It features two versions of the title track & a couple of bonus tracks. They are all awesome & worthy of being smacked on your iPod. You will have them in your head for weeks!
Do yourself a favour & go buy this!

Video: Kanye West - Heartless
Heartless from kwest on Vimeo.
This reminds me of Tupac's "Do For Love" (which is actually my favourite rap song, ever). It's cheaply animated, but you can ignore that, because the song is brill. The drums remind me of vintage Kanye.
Apparently, Hype Williams directed this, which doesn't surprise me, because he is just awful nowadays. Gosh, I miss the days of Missy Elliot.
Could Ludacris have the album of the year?

I'm on my film review ting!
Quantum Of Solace
Director: Marc Forster
Stars: Daniel Graig, Judi Dench, Olga Kurylenko, Gemma Arterton
Not every Bond book contained high speed chases & thrilling action scenes, you know. Some were glimpses into the psyche of a complex & unique character extremely well written by his creator, the late Ian Fleming. One such title, The Spy Who Loved Me, has already been turned into a film. Here, another short story gets the film treatment & to thrilling effect.
If you do not remember the events of Casino Royal, I would suggest you go back & revisit them, because this is not so much a sequel, as a conclusion. Think of this as the Act II to Casino's Act I.
From the first scene, there are car chases, incredible fight sequences, plot twists & snappy dialogue. Graig is clearly at home in the role of Bond & much like the film itself, he lends a modern twist to the character, whilst paying homage to those who've paved the way. Rather than full blown double entrendes (Ã la Roger Moore), he delivers the puns in a throwaway style like Sean Connery. His dark elements bring to mind the Timothy Dalton films which, like this, were closer to the books. Make no mistake though, Daniel Craig is his own Bond & he makes the role seem like it was made for him.
This isn't a film concerned with keeping it's audience up to speed. At times, it seems like it's not even a film concerned with entertaining it's audience. It's dark, violent & relentlessly fast paced. But therein lies it's appeal. It doesn't insult the modern day cinema goer. It doesn't assume you need a wafer thin plot to understand or an over blown, cartoonish bad guy.
The villains are real, the plot is clever, but easy to understand. The characters are believable & although we all know Bond will survive, for once, you're not quite certain how.
It's important to note that not only does this film contain two of the most beautiful Bond girls ever, but also two of the most intelligent. They are humourous & both have back stories & aren't just conquests for Bond. They both play a vital role in this film (& in the evolution of Bond's character).
The Bond we all know & love is a character that grows from the foundations Craig is currently building & the makers are aware of that. Careful to stay true to the traditions we all know & love ,whilst adding something new to the series, the producers should be proud of themselves for what is surely the best film in this franchise since the 80s. Goldeneye? Pssh. Brosnan wouldn't last one round with this MI6 badass.
One thing though: This film looses half a star for what is truly a terrible, terrible theme tune. Shame on you, Jack White.

Video: ENVY - FRIDAY NIGHT
Manchester based MC Envy makes her official debut with this, ultra slick & super stylish vid giving us a break from the clichés that have long plagued UK rap music.
A heavy beat, some sick rhymes & tongue firmly in cheek, Envy is ready to get the clubs going with this one. The single is officially released on November 24th, so go out & support!
"F*ck a squad/Better have God wit ya..."
Rich Boy is the man. Ever since he debuted on the scene with his surprising & impressive self-titled debut album, he's continued to win fans & astound critics. Sounding more at home on a Polow Da Don beat than any other artist has, he has shown tremendous growth & improvement, amazing considering he was awesome to begin with.
The producer/rapper is already at work on his second official album, after this years well received Bigger Than The Mayor mixtape.
It's unsure wether this will be a single from it or not, but if this type of quality will maintained on the LP, Rich Boy's onto (another) winner.

Birds do it, bees do it...
I meant to post about these two aggggeesss ago, but I am a lazy bastard. The Bird & The Bee are the best thing to happen to music since ever. I heard their music sometime ago, but didn't know their names & had to live in sadness until a friend did some research & got hold of a copy of their debut album for me.
Whatever lengths you have to go to to obtain said album, I suggest you do. It's incredible, smile creating, dance inducing pop music & your life will be better for it. Long live The Bird & The Bee.
I CAN'T FEEL MY FACE!!
Juelz Santana & Lil Wayne have been promising us a joint album for close to four years now & after much hype & a few teasers (including standout tracks on Dedication 2 & Tha Carter III), the first two singles have leaked. I'll be posting the second in the near future, but in the meantime, check out this, the self titled debut single. All I can say is ...damn. Well worth the wait.

B.B. Manik is the illlest...
Every now & then, I like to actually spit some bars, so I just thought I'd remind you of that. Mixtape is December & it's gonna be fire! Production by Goldielocks, Swizz Beats & others. Hosted by Wordsmith & featuring G-Unit, Freezi, Dave Grohl & more.

He's bacccckkkk!!!!
One of the greatest rappers of all time. An oscar winner. Undisputed battle champion & star of cartoons, video games & more. Eminem has done it all. Yet,his story still feels unfinished. After the disappointing Encore & the major label mixtape The Re-Up, fans are still waiting for more Slim Shady, with hunger and passion reminiscent of the Marshall Mathers LP.
Well, their wish will be granted this year as Slim returns. First is his autobiography The Way I Am (out on Monday). A limited edition t-shirt will be available to celebrate it as well.
But, most importantly & exciting is the news that Shady will be back with an album of new material entitled Relapse, which he claims will be out by year's end. I'm sure, if you're anything like me, you're jumping up & down right now.
This will probably drive you even more crazy. NEW EMINEM!!! :
Eminem - I’m Having A Relapse (CDQ)
Things I like
Yeah, I'm still doing this, I just haven't seen much I like recently. Anyway, this month, there has been some dopeness about which has caught my eye:
Daft Punk Bearbricks
Daft Punk? Awesome. Bearbricks? Also awesome. It's simple math really. & these are 400%ers. That's like, four times the awesome. I don't think I have space in my bedroom for these, but I'm with this regardless.
Grafh is back!!
Grafh is one the most underrated artists in rap music today. His debut album went by virtually unnoticed & he didn't really get the props he deserved for his first Green Lantern assisted mixtape The Oracle. That was a real shame, because it was a classic. Well, he & Green have re-teamed & produced a banger of a sequel. DOWNLOAD THIS-NOW!!!

Pound is stronger than the dollar-Holla!
So, it's no secret I don't have much love for Semtex. But one thing I do respect is how he's constantly hooking up collabos between US & UK artists. His Crunk & Grime mixtape was a classic & now he's working on one untitled Pounds & Dollars. I look forward to hearing the end result.
"NO Mr. Bond-I expect you to die!"
Am I the only person who doesn't like this? Yeah, I get it, Jack White is amazing & Alicia Keys is amazing, but that doesn't make them amazing together. I love mint choc chip ice cream & I love bacon, but I wouldn't eat them at the same time. Or would I? Hmmm...
Anyway, I am simply not feeling this. Having said that, I hated "You Know My Name" originally & now I sing along at the top of my lungs whenever watching Casino Royale, so who knows.
It'll still never be better than the best Bond song ever though. Or the 2nd best for that matter.

And Justice For All
I've been a fan of Justice since before they dropped the album. So, when all the d*ckriders & shoreditch idiots jumped on the bandwagon, I went off em a bit. However, the Wale collobaration & the Soulwax remix of Phantom II made me wana hear more from these guys again.
Well, my prayers have been answered, cos the guys are back in a new DVD directed by the genius that is SO ME.
Looks awesome & I can't wait to see more.

I told you time ago Janelle was the sh*t! Anyway, I hope you went out & either copped the CD copy of her EP or downloaded it from iTunes. If you didn't, you're a chump. Watch the video & tell me she's not amazing.
Also, did you see that moonwalk? Forwards and backwards? Bloody hell.

Video: Ghetto-Sing For Me
Ghetto is an artist you really want to blow, but it's 99% likely he won't. I mean, how do you market someone called Ghetto?
It's always been a shame, because he is without doubt, one the most skilled lyricists in the game today. He's come close a few times (working with Kano on Home Sweet Home & The Streets on the Prangin' Out remix), but has yet to blow.
If he keeps churning out tunes like this though, he might just surprise us.
Things I Like
I haven't done this in ages, cos nothing much has caught attention enough, However, these thangs right hurr are dope:

I haven't felt much of the singles chart recently (except Ladyhawke, of course), but this is banging. You know Goldie always comes through. Support some real good music & cop this from her site or iTunes.

Told you that we won't stop
This is, hands down, the best thing anyone anywhere has ever uploaded.
It's better than Chocolate Rain, 2 girls & A Cup, anything you can think of.
Diddy, you're a genius.
I want to marry Laura Marling
It is impossible to find a good picture of this girl
Wiley mentioned Laura Marling aggesss ago (seriously, it was like a year and a half ago), so I added her on Myspace & never listened. Well, jokes on me, because Laura is one the most fantastic musicians around today.
Her self-penned, Noah & The Whale backed album is a beautiful collection of songs (poems almost), with wonderful lyricism & brilliant production.
She missed out on the Mercury prize this year (she was robbed!), but I'm sure this is just the start of an amazing career.
This is my fave song of the album (although, it changes everyday):
I think I'm going to marry her. She has a song called "My manic & I", so I think it's meant to be :P

Easily the best song out!!
Metronomy are the shit. Let's get that straight, right away. Metronomy was one dude, now it's three. The debut album was nice, but you have got to hear the new LP! Oh My days. Tunes for days. It's catchy as hell, it's funny, it's just amazing!!
Song's like Heartbreaker are just the tip of the Iceberg for these guys, they have so many tunes & you'd be a fool not to check em out! :)
Kate Nash- Foundations (Metronomy Remix)
Disney's back!!
Disney fell off. Yearrsss ago. I think it was The Lion King. But, after that, they never had a classic film. There were signs of brilliant work (Tarzan was decent), but nothing that matched the brilliance of The Sword In The Stone, Basil The Great Mouse Detective or Robin Hood.
Then Pixar came along & saved Disney's ass from the pits of animation Hell. Toy Story changed film &, well, you know the rest...
But even with Pixar showing how it should be done, Disney still couldn't get it right. When they weren't ripping off Pixar badly (Meet The Robinsons), they were ripping off Dreamworks (the Madagascar wannabe The Wild is the most blatant plagiarism I have seen in some time).
But, finally, it looks like they've got it right. I don't want to get too excited being this only the first trailer, but my, this looks special. Travolta is always good, they seem to have kept Miley Cryus' role to a minimum, what's not to like? Plus, that hamster is A-MAZE-ZING.
The cynic in me is a little mad that the subplot's are both borrowed from Pixar films, but I'll forgive it, cos it's nice to finally have Disney back. I've missed it.
Video: Q-Tip - Gettin’ Up
First up: if you do not like Q-Tip, we cannot be friends. Leave my blog & never return. A Tribe Called Quest are the reason I got into rap. Without Q-Tip, there would be no B.B. Manik!
Anyway, this is the first single of Tip's upcoming 3rd solo album The Renaissance. Apart from production from Q-Tip himself (one of the most underrated beatsmiths in the game), the album will feature unreleased production from the late J Dilla.
It looks to be one of the biggest and best releases of past decade, rap or otherwise, so keep an eye out.
In the meantime, download this & pass it to all your mates. I shouldn't even have to tell you to buy the album when it comes out. You're only cheating yourself if you don't.
Video: Ludacris - What Them Girls Like (ft. Chris Brown & Sean Garrett)
Luda tends to get overlooked when it comes to best MC lists, but he's earned his placed amongst raps elite & it's mostly thanks to tunes like this.
Chris Brown can do no wrong at the moment & the young singer/rapper may just go the distance & actually be the next Michael Jackson if he keeps this up.
And as for Sean Garrett? It's been a while & it's good to hear his name again :)

You know I had to bring em back..
Recently, these 3 artists have all popped up on my iPod and made me wonder about their new material. For those who don't know, here's 3 artists that should've been big, but weren't & will hopefully be releasing new material soon:
Fannypack
Fannypack's debut self titled album was my sh*t back in the day! Every single tune on the album is a banger. It features skits that are actually funny, jokes bars, brilliant singing & production and tunes that sample everything from Run DMC to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Their second album came out in 2005, but was widely ignored. They now have their own label in addition to their deal with Tommy Boy & new material should be surfacing soon, so keep those eyes peeled!
Nikka Costa
Nikka has been in show business since she was a child & it shows in her innovative writing style & amazing live shows. She had already released two albums before she met Mark Ronson & had a worldwide hit with "Like A Feather" (still the best beat Ronson has ever done).
She's currently working on a new album & is also the face of the new Levi Jeans campaign alongside Wale & Estelle.
Stefy
Stefy were formerly known as The Lovely which is where most people remember them from. They became Stefy (named after lead singer Stefy Rae) & scored a worldwide smash with the anthemic "Chelsea".
The debut album didn't do as well as it should have & the group are currently working on new material that should see the light of day in '09.
Anyone who knows of my personal relationship with Stefy may be reading this article & rolling their eyes, but you'd do well to check out the music of a brilliant band making tunes unlike anything else in the current popular music scene.

We are the masters...
I'm currently being featured on Volume 3 of the the 5 volume Masters Of The Universe compilation presented by underground legend Sakura Night. It features some of the hottest talent around on the electronica scene & right now & contains some absolute bangers.
You can download the mixtape for free(!) in it's entirety here
"Oh you mad cos I'm stylin on ya..."
Modeling offers, eh? They're like buses. None for ages, then two at once. On the very same day I rocked the Built For Sin gear, I caught a train back down to LDN & did this shoot with the boys, for the homies over at D-Visions Clothing:
I'm ready for my closeup
Anybody that's actually seen me in person will tell you I don't know the first thingabout fashion. I can't dress to save my life. Good thing then, I am now sponsored by the good folks at Built For Sin Clothing. I'll be rocking their garms in videos & on stage & we're working on a collaboration too.
I was recently invited to the shooting of their latest seasons designs & it was awesome. Amongst the many sights I took in, there was: a lowrider bike, extreme BMXers, girls wearing grillz & a fair bit of female nudity. So, pretty much a perfect day really. Enjoy some behind the scenes goodness & keep ya eyes peeled for an update on the new season:
